Constable Thompson

Andrew Thompson is an elected Pennsylvania Constable in Penn Township, Westmoreland County. He primarily serves portions of Western Pennsylvania. His office provides professional constable and judicial support services including civil process, subpoenas, prisoner transport, civil standby services, and related court-support operations throughout the region.

Originally from the Kittanning area of Armstrong County, Constable Thompson developed an early interest in public service, history, and the role of local institutions within Pennsylvania communities. After relocating to Westmoreland County, he pursued elected office as a constable with the belief that the office continues to serve an important role within the Commonwealth’s broader judicial and public safety system.

As a Pennsylvania Constable, he views the office as one of the Commonwealth’s oldest continuously existing public institutions. While limited in scope and authority under Pennsylvania law, constables continue to serve important judicial, election, and public-order functions at the local level. He believes the office is most effective when operating professionally, responsibly, and cooperatively alongside courts, municipalities, and other public safety agencies.

In addition to his elected service, Constable Thompson has worked in a variety of courthouse, public safety, corrections, and protective-service environments. Many involving courtroom operations, prisoner transport, emergency response, public interaction, and institutional security operations. He has also completed federal and state public safety training programs, including coursework conducted through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) as well as the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Constable Thompson is currently pursuing a master's degree in History at Slippery Rock University, where his academic interests include policing, institutional development, urban history, public administration, and the historical evolution of public-order systems within the United States. He previously earned a degree in Criminology and maintains a longstanding interest in the relationship between law enforcement, local governance, and historical community institutions.

Beyond his constable duties, he remains active in auxiliary and community service organizations. He serves as an officer in the Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force, where he has held multiple leadership and administrative positions, including squadron command responsibilities in Western Pennsylvania. During his leadership tenure, he assisted with organizational development, personnel training, cadet mentorship, recruiting efforts, and administrative modernization initiatives.

His office emphasizes professionalism, responsiveness, communication, and dependable service while working with attorneys, municipalities, landlords, courts, and members of the public throughout Western Pennsylvania. Constable Thompson advocates for modern administrative practices, clear communication, and responsible conduct within the constable profession while recognizing the historic and independent nature of the office under Pennsylvania law.
